THE BEST ROOFTOP PATIOS IN TORONTO

9 ROOFTOPS TAKING PATIO SEASON TO ANOTHER LEVEL

The best rooftop patios in Toronto artfully showcase their neighbourhood surroundings while more immediately quenching thirsts for refreshments and sunny, open spaces. In no particular order, these eight rooftops take patio season to a whole new level.

HARVEST KITCHEN
124 Harbord St.

This Annex restaurant actually has two patios, but the 35-seat treetop space extends the conscious conduct of the kitchen to the environment surrounding it, literally constructing the space around a sprawling, thick-limbed giant to place roof diners in the middle of a vibrant green space.

SKY YARD AT THE DRAKE HOTEL
1150 Queen St. W

With room for 150 above a never sleeping Queen West, the Drake Hotel’s Sky Yard patio isn’t just a trendy late-night hangout, but a uniquely climate defiant one, too. It’s a resiliently adaptable space that stays open all throughout the year, breaking out the patio heaters and an open fire pit in the winter months.

PAUPERS PUB
539 Bloor Street W

This century old building was once a Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce branch but has been an Annex staple for 27 years. Make your way up through the main bar on the first floor, past Paupers Lounge on the second, all the way up to the roof top patio for one of the best views of the city. You’ll find reliable pub grub with plenty of choice for the beer drinkers here.

MASCOT BREWERY AND BEER GARDEN
31 Mercer St.

With communal picnic bench seating, an outdoor bar, AstroTurf, and even a food truck, Mascot Brewery’s rooftop beer garden brings the Entertainment District a casual, sunny vibe that’s equal parts backyard barbecue and home team stomping grounds. A shorter menu than their ground level brewpub boasts beer-integrating Bavarian bar snacks, and for larger groups, guests can order a five-litre kegs of craft brews they can and self-serve at their own leisure.

THE PILOT TAVERN’S “FLIGHT DECK”
22 Cumberland St.

The Pilot Tavern’s rooftop “Flight Deck” might very well be the best way to enjoy a Yorkville institution that’s been around for more than 70 years. Equipped to handle most of the elements, heaters and retractable awnings come in handy in case of spring rain and chilly nights, while ceiling fans keep you cool on your flight towards the sun.

WILLIAMS LANDING
120 Lynn Williams St.

Williams Landing’s huge, rooftop space quickly established it as one of the best patios in Liberty Village. With 16 beers on tap and 10 more by the bottle, beer selection is still markedly pedestrian (read: this is no craft clubhouse), but they make up for it with 10 signature cocktails and 34 wines, making this an easy option for after work drinks.

MOMOFUKU DAISHŌ
190 University Ave.

Peaking out from the third floor of Momofuko’s complex beside the Shangri-La Hotel, Daishō’s patio is, in a liberal turn of phrase, a rooftop patio (hear me out, it does rest atop Noodle Bar), but a rooftop patio nonetheless. It pairs A-game contemporary cuisine with the reflective scene of glassy skyscrapers that surrounds it, making for an unrepeatably sublime experience in the Financial District.

VIVOLI
665 College St.

This trendy slice of Little Italy keeps things simple with its rooftop patio, offering diners a casual if elevated space from which to overlook College Street while they dine on authentic, classic Italian pizzas and pastas.

THE THOMPSON HOTEL
550 Wellington St. W

Few places in Toronto offer #views as breathtaking and exclusive as the luxurious rooftop lounge atop the Thompson Hotel. Fifteen storeys up at the corner of Wellington and Bathurst, it’s a chic space that delivers a rare sense of limitlessness with uncrowded 360-degree sightlines, cabanas, and a 40-foot infinity pool. And although it’s reserved for hotel guests and lounge members only, they’ve been known to throw some public parties, too.
